The main reasons why hydrocyclones are commonly preferred are that they occupy a small space in plants and require very low capital and operating costs. They are used in almost all mineral processing plants to classify fines in slurries generally between 100 and 5 micron. Moreover, hydrocyclones are successfully employed in dewatering operations. New-design Tüfekçioğlu hydrocyclones* have steel bodies lined with replaceable high quality rubber. They need to be fed by an appropriate pump with a pressure of 0.35-4 bars depending on operational parameters.
Hydrocyclones operate properly when air corridor occurs through the axis. If the apex diameter is too small or if there is a thick pulp discharge, the air corridor does not occur and hence classification would be affected adversely.
